20 inches of snow fell overnight in New York City last night (01.27 11). After digging out our cars (previous post), I took a little trip out on my snow day off from work
The neighborhoods were still a mess in the afternoon. Up and down my block people were still trying to shovel out the sidewalks
But even after they were cleared there still was a battle to get thru waist high snow banks
The plow banks after the roads were plowed, made it impossible to get from the sidewalk to the street
after digging out the car and clearing thru the plow bank, we were able to finally get the car out of the driveway. The snow piles in my front yard are as tall as my Toyota SUV.
But after getting the SUV out, the streets were still clogged with plows, police cars and ambulances on my street
and that blocked street led to this backup
later on after the street cleared, we got out
I went up Pelham Parkway towards Fordham road
Traffic varied, but was on the light side
The 12 Bus runs up and down Pelham Parkway. At one of the stops on the side of the road, this older gentleman with a walker was waiting for his bus.
The entrance to Bronx River Pkwy off of Pelham Parkway is clear
Up towards Fordham Road Arthur Ave in Little Italy, was a mess
But Mikes Deli was open and just as good as ever
Back to the neighboor hood and the on going battle to get the cars dug out
I thought that these 2 cars were in the deepest >>>>>>>
Until the next block when I came across these 2 which were so covered over that one of the owners put a sign up hoping that the plows would not destroy his covered cars
So lets go take a ride over to Pelham Bay Park
The lot is un plowed and impassable. Of course those tire tracks in the unplowed snow are mine, Had to play with the 4 wheel drive.
Over on the other side of the park, the plaza is untouched
The park is completely snowbound at twilight
and still futher around the park , Pelham Bay is starting to freeze over and snow covered
The docks at one end are completely snow covered
and passing Turtle Cove on the way back home
